Bio

Katrina O'Gilvie grew up between New York City and the South of Spain, where her father produced live Jazz concerts, and her mother was a singer. She fell in love with the film industry at an early age and followed that passion to film school at The New School University in NYC.

Her time in film development at Imagine Entertainment and then as Aaron Sorkin's assistant on SPORTS NIGHT gave her even more experience working directly with writers, directors, showrunners, producers, and executives. While raising her children, Katrina worked in production, wrote a pregnancy book, and was a feature writer for LA Parent Magazine. During that time, she continued to write film and television scripts as well as her first novel.

Before long, she was commissioned to three TV movies, including the award-winning and NAACP Image Award-nominated Rosa Parks movie, BEHIND THE MOVEMENT, chronicling the four days between when Mrs. Parks gave up her seat and the first day of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

She is incredibly proud to have been a story editor on SWAGGER, a new show from Apple TV, Imagine Entertainment & CBS Studios, with her friend and mentor Reggie Rock Bythewood at the helm. During the height of the pandemic, she sold a pilot, ACTIVATION, to CBS Network via the Rideback Writer's Program and is now, thrilled to be writing on the third season of ALL RISE which will be aired on OWN in 2022.

Storytelling is Katrina's passion, and coming from Jamaican, Irish, and Puerto Rican descent, she is proud to write with a wide range of exciting and diverse characters. Growing up in a family of artists who broke through color barriers to become some of the firsts in this industry, she has a true understanding and appreciation for the journey.

In the Press...

Behind the Movement is the inspiring and shocking tale of Rose Parks and the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s in the United States. When writer Katrina O’Gilvie was approached by Karen Peterkin from TV One about the idea of the biopic, she was eager to get started.
She soon found herself delving into more information about the iconic Rosa Parks. Known for refusing to give up her seat on a bus, Parks is viewed as the catalyst for the Civil Rights movement. This brave woman quickly became the catalyst, but there are many rumors and misconceptions about the real lady behind the movement. That’s something O’Gilvie set out to correct.
